Bunting Project

We are now seeking submissions for 2017 bunting. Please see details below

To celebrate our creative community, the Southville Community Development Association commissions artists to create beautiful bunting to brighten up the outside of the Southville Centre. Each set of bunting is hung for three months. The summer 2017 bunting is now on display.

Artists are paid £140.00 and as well as the main bunting are asked to make three additional bunting pendants that are catalogued as a record of this community art partnership.

If you are an artist or part of an art collective that is interested in submitting a design then these are the things to bear in mind:

  • The length of the bunting should be approximately 22 meters (80 flags) in total provided in 2 runs.
  • You can use any medium; paint, screen print, create collage, textile, paint silk or anything you’d like. The flag can be any shape, size, it does not have to be triangle. Repeated images repeated work well but it is entirely up to you.
  • Any paint used has to be absolutely water-resistant.
  • We encourage and look favourably on designs that utilise environmentally friendly resources.
  • Bunting should either have a design on both sides of each flag or the design should alternate front then back of every other flag as the bunting will be viewed.

We will supply the bunting tape pre-cut to the required lengths as we have found most tapes don’t hold up in bad weather conditions and can become mis-shapen and droop when wet.

How to submit work:

Please email jpg. images of your design ideas to Nadine Bright on, or pop in and leave some prints on reception marking your envelope as ‘Bunting submission’. Please make sure your contact details are also written on the back.

The bunting exhibition changes every quarter with each successful artist features on our website and social media.
