In 2014 the Southville Community Development Association and Bristol Ageing Better initiated research with people over 50 years of age who live in BS3, under the auspices of the Our Place project which is looking at issues around isolation and loneliness in older people. This research is ongoing but we wanted to share initial thoughts in order to stimulate discussion and raise awareness.

The research generated from questionnaires and focus group discussion in BS3 social housing was shared at the Our Place mini-conference event held at the Southville Centre on 12th Feb 2015. The comments from those who participated in the discussions are available to download here and have been grouped according to these four headings:

WHAT PEOPLE SAID

WHAT PEOPLE DO

WHAT PEOPLE WANT

WHAT IDEAS PEOPLE HAD

The "Our Place: Making an Age-Friendly Neighbourhood" mini-conference was a chance for groups and organisations working with older people in Bristol BS3 area to share examples of their current projects and future plans.
Speakers from a range of organisations gave very short talks about their work and answered questions from other attendees. Plenty of networking time was allowed for people to find out more about each others work, with information stands set up in the main hall to visit. Preliminary results (see above) from some of the ongoing research with older people in BS3 were put out for attendees to add their own comments and feed back into the research.
All the event evaluation forms received from attendees so far have been very positive, with people welcoming the chance to find out more about what is already happening in BS3, meet each other and develop new links.

We welcome feedback on these initial outputs - please email ourplace@southvillecentre.org.uk with any comments.
