The Nursery Environment

The nursery space was updated in summer 2010, thanks to almost £150,000 of Central Government Early Years Capital Funding.

Stackpool Room

This space is predominantly used by 3-5 year olds. The emphasis in this space is on the nursery’s place in the community, it includes images of the local area created by local artists as well as portholes and windows so children can observe activity in the Community Centre and Garden. Every area of the room was planned in detail and influenced by children, parents, practitioners and educational professionals across the local, national and international ‘early years’ community.

Leighton Room

The nursery was originally opened in the Leighton Room in 1992. This space is now predominantly used by 1-3 year olds. It is designed to provide a relaxed and secure space which supports young children in being confident to explore a range of interesting areas. Again it includes images from a local artist and has a flexible layout ensuring the space meets the needs of the children using it.

The Garden

The Community Garden was created when the Centre first opened in 1991. The Nursery children have priority use of this space and a new sheltered natural play area is due to be introduced to further enhance an interesting and well planned space. The Nursery also has a secure patio space with a safety surface for use by the youngest children.

We have benefitted from an excellent working relationship with Amanda Webb (Vic Love Architects), MJ Wilcox Construction & Electrical Contractors and Emily Ketteringham (artist).
