Nursery Development Works – Update

The Stackpool Room opened on 1st September, completed on schedule and on budget. The space has been very well received by children and parents and following recent discussions with OFSTED the capacity of the nursery has been increased by 13 spaces. We hope that this will go some way towards helping us to meet local demand for high quality early years provision.

Work began on the newly named ‘Leighton Room’ earlier this month and the expected completion date is September 30th. This project has a budget of approximately £20,000 and will include refurbishment of the nursery space, the introduction of a new ‘quiet room’ in place of the old office space, increased pushchair storage and a fantastic new custom made ‘role-play’ area with art work from Emily Ketteringham. We were fortunate to be able to continue with the same team of designer Amanda Webb, Vic Love Architects and MJ Wilcox Construction & Electrical Contractors Ltd and hope that the space will have a similar feel to the Stackpool Room.
The third phase of works will commence in late October in the outside area. This project will include a new play surface for the raised patio area and creation of a sheltered meeting circle, inspired by Forest School ideas originating in Norway and Sweden.

The Southville Centre Nursery
– Stackpool Room Development Works
In June the Nursery received over £120,000 worth of funding from the Central Government ‘Early Years Capital Fund’ to develop the ‘Stackpool Room’ into a nursery space for around thirty 3 and 4 year olds. This is the first of three funded phases, with work on the ‘Leighton Room’ for under 3’s due to start in September.
The Stackpool Room is now approaching completion and should be available for the children to use from 1st September.
The project includes a purpose built library and IT space, a ‘loft’ platform play space and art work from local artist Emily Ketteringham. Project Manager Amanda Webb of Vic Love Architects, has worked to create a unique space which has been influenced by staff and children as well as local, national and international educational professionals, including the University of Turku in Finland. Building works have been completed by MJ Wilcox Construction & Electrical Contractors Ltd.
